ARRIBA ABAJO

Come Up to Get Down

We helped Hyatt’s Thompson Hotel in Austin create a new concept for their fourth-floor rooftop restaurant: a Mexican cantina where patrons can come for group experiences centered around drinking and dining.  We took the name “Arriba Abajo” from the popular Mexican toast “Arriba, Abajo, al centro, pa’ dentro” — which translates to “Up, down, to the center, drink!” Working hand-in-hand with brand strategy company Fylament, we brought this unique identity to colorful, vibrant life.

Results

Arriba Abajo saw a significant increase in weekly sales YOY and have been well received by locals and travelers alike.

Partners

In addition to our collaboration with Fylament, we also partner with digital agency CNW. Creating a wide range of assets allowed for rich content on both Instagram and the website, which was brought to life by BentoBox.

Wavy text and reflected letters speak to the dichotomy of the cantina’s lux inside dining room and the sunny, poolside rooftop bar.

We were inspired by the odyssey from Oaxaca to the Yucatan for a colorful, coastal brand with a touch of mischief. A perfect match for Chef Marc Marrone’s flavorful Mexican cuisine. The cantina features dazzling poolside views outside of the main indoor restaurant, so we captured the duality of land and sea throughout the design. With each touchpoint, we invite guests to explore a bit deeper, feel a little looser, and get immersed in a way of life that keeps them coming back for more.

We curated bright, textured inspiration infused with an artisan flair. A collaborative effort between interiors and branding makes for a seamless, spot-on experience.

This project required an overhaul of Thompson Hotel’s massive rooftop space, which is mainly accessed by an elevator from the hotel lobby as well as from an attached multi-family residence.

We created clear wayfinding for a seamless guest experience that advertised Arriba Abajo as well as if it had a physical presence down on the main street. This made the restaurant more than just a destination for hotel guests, but a hot spot for all of Austin’s adventurous diners.

Menu creation is an art where design and psychology come together to create the best user experience
— made in collaboration with
Fylament.

Custom wayfinding, unique window graphics and curiously alluring neon signs helped increase foot traffic from the street up to the fourth-floor location.

A unique, intimate tasting room at the back of our space provides connisours an oppotunity to try a curated collection of premium mezcals.

Staff uniforms keep it cool with custom illustrations embroidered on linen for eye-catching apparel.

We recreated the custom tile design on the bottom
of the azure pool and brought into the branding —
celebrating Mexican workmanship, artistry and the
music. A perfect compliment to poolside dining.
